You can see the condensation in the jug long after you boil the water which looks messy. Wouldn't buy a glass kettle again for this reason. It's also a lot bigger than I expected, not very subtle on my bench! In hindsight, wish I bought something else.

We have used this jug for about a month now. I can confirm that it does heat water to boiling quite expeditiously, which is why we bought it. Having got to boiling point, it does (eventually) turn itself off. It is quite stable when standing on the bench. I do like the steady opening of the lid, rather than the instantaneous flick-open of some other jugs we have had in the past. I do like the completely transparent body, and the fact there there is a scale on the side giving a measure of how much water is in there. So far, that body has stayed "crystal clear", it will be interesting to see how long that lasts. What I think should be improved is the rather fiddly little on-off switch under the handle. I have seen other jugs that provide a horizontal paddle to turn it on-off - soooo much easier to use. Though at least the switch does light up when the jug is on, so it is easy to see if it is on or not. And I quite like jugs that turn themselves off when you lift them off their base. This one does not, so after you have tipped most of the water out, you actually have to stop it boiling itself dry. What was really good was that one time I turned it on by accident when there was no water in the jug. After a few seconds it gave a loud "pop" and turned itself off. Turning the switch off and back on again restored normal functionality. I do like an item to have some idiot-resistance designed into it, can be needed in the best-run households!

We have been through three Zip glass kettles in 24 years. The first two had to be replaced after we broke the glass, but the last one had a glass body that was made in Germany so it lasted until it became so shabby we started to think about replacing it, which didn't happen until the kettle broke finally down. and we had no choice. Since the Zip product seems to be no longer available, we looked at all the glass kettles in Briscoes and decided on this one. The only quibble I have with it (which is the reason for only four stars) is that it doesn't switch off if you get impatient and pick it up as soon as it comes to the boil. Old habits die hard and I'm having trouble remembering every time to switch the kettle off before picking it up. The "proof of the pudding" in this case is how long it lasts. Will it still be working in 5 years? It should still be working in ten as far as I'm concerned.
